HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY?
Kind of by accident. I discovered my love for gemstones and crystals and it all evolved from there. The first ring I ever designed was this massive double knuckle quartz piece.
DID YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF DESIGN BACKGROUND?
Nope! I was actually a nanny before my husband and I started making jewels. He was previously building massive sets and staging for extreme sporting events.
HOW LONG HAS YOUR COMPANY BEEN IN BUSINESS?
Almost six years.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO START YOUR COMPANY?
I’m always down to try something new and making jewelry sounded cool. I didn’t even really know anything about the jewelry business when we started. I just knew I liked shiny rocks. I also really resent being told what to do, so running my own business sounded pretty neat.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
Currently in the San Francisco Bay Area. Who knows where the wind might take us though…

We are from Kentucky. Home of Mammoth Caves. The longest cave system in the world!
ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE YOUR JEWELRY
Evolving.
IS THERE A UNIQUE STORY BEHIND YOUR BUSINESS NAME?
Well…Gem Steady started out as my fake DJ name. Then I made up a definition for it (which you can find published in the Urban Dictionary) and I used it as my life coaching mantra…and now it’s the name of our jewelry brand. Gem Steady is more of a lifestyle than any one thing in particular. I think you can feel Gem Steady. Spread Gem Steady. Wear Gem Steady. And pretty much be Gem Steady if your vibes are right. Can you dig it?
WHAT’S THE FIRST PIECE OF JEWELRY YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH?
Probably this beautiful star sapphire and diamond ring my grandma gave me when I was a kid. I have a fairly vivid memory of me wearing it to see a performance of Cats. I was maybe seven or so years old at the time.
WHO IS YOUR JEWELRY ICON?
Probably every member of every royal family in history alive or dead.
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL?
I wasn’t sure so I just took a spirit animal quiz and was informed that I’m a tiger.
IF A THEME SONG PLAYED EVERY TIME YOU WALKED INTO A ROOM, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Either 'Worms Make Dirt' by Aquabats or 'Vitamin C' by Can or something off of the Grease soundtrack.… Or something completely different. I don’t know. This is a hard question.

I have a few staples. My GeoGalactic pendant by Gem Steady ;) is definitely always on though. It’s just a really nice every day necklace and is super versatile.
